Andrew Patterson - College Talk

Do you remember the first time you went to college? Or what you felt when you first entered the gates? None of us here at Pt England Intermediate has experienced college as you may know, but in 3 months we will be experiencing the most important start of our lives.

Andrew Patterson came in to talk to us about the different subject that colleges have and extras.
One of the statements that were made by him, were habits. He gave us sheets of paper that had a riddle on it. The riddle was a task to unriddle. The riddle was named, Who Am I? All the year 8’s read it together and was asked if any of us had figured it out. The answer was habits. The riddle was habits. He talked about good habits and bad habits. What are habits? What do they mean? Why do we have them? These were question that were asked to figure out.

I bet you're wondering what does habits got to do with college? Well it has a huge impact for when you go college. You need to have good habits in order to do well in school. As well bad habits to learn from your mistakes. One of the videos that Andrew Patterson showed us said, to make your brain grow you need to make mistakes. This is a meaning that we need to remember.

It was a great talk to prepare us for college, as well as doing well and making us have a good future!

The Kauri Tree

For Literacy this week. Aoraki has been focusing on making inferences. Making inferences means to connect the story in your own words. Our task was to read a journal called, Kauri Island. We were shared a presentation on google docs and had to understanding what the meaning of the word was. Then we made inferences. This was helping us for our writing and reading and also to understand what we are writing and understand what we're reading.

Triangle Addition

This is one of my Maths tasks for Week 6. WALT use our solving skills and knowledge of addition to make the number that is provided into the number that is at the top. Our number was 3.518 and we had to find out what the numbers were added up.  There will be something else to do with maths later on this week for everyone to see.

It is a long ride to the beach town where her cousins live, but Mabel is cautious about her sister because she has magic. And Mabel is a type of girl who likes to be neat and tidy, and her little sister Violet, is a messy little girl who loves having magic. Her mum had magic when she was little but it was a nightmare for her. So Mabel doesn't want her little sister ruin the trip for her and her parents.

Writing Sample - Outrageous Netball Game

On Tuesday morning I looked up into the sky and saw dark grey clouds covering the sun. For quite some time I kept my eye on the weather because we had our Netball game. By the time it was morning tea, it started raining. When school had finished I made my way towards the hall, getting ready for our game. We got changed and waited for our ride. The whole team was getting a bit bored so we decided to practise our passing. Finally Mr J arrived with the Van.

Mr J dropped us off just outside the courts so it wasn't that much of a walk because of the weather. By the time we got to the courts it was pouring down with rain. I was shivering cold and my teeth were chattering. But we still went out in the rain a had a little game. “Mary, Hannah, Josephine, Lesieli and Ana, come back we are going to have a practise on our court.” Yelled our coach Miss Thompson.

I looked at the time 5 more seconds until the game. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The umpire blew the whistle. We all got ready and in our positions. The umpire again blew the whistle. We started. When our Centre (Quasia) threw the ball to me, it kind of slipped because of the rain. I quickly ran after the ball. It was so wet I almost slipped and and glide across the court. My hands were going numb so I couldn't feel the ball whenever I got it. Remuera Intermediate scored the first goal.

Again the ball slipped out of my hand and I had to run after it. My partner was fierce she didn't let me out of her sight. She tripped me a couple of times but I didn't care. It was really pouring with rain it felt like I was having a cold shower. The timer went off. We ran to our coach. She explained to us, “Do not throw long passes because the ball will slip. So it did.

Whenever it was our turn to throw off, the Centre from RI would cover me so I couldn't get the ball. I was soaking wet. Finally it was 4th quarter which is the last quarter. we scored the last 4 goals I think. Then the timer went off. We won by 3 points. We played pretty good despite the weather. It was outrageous. I couldn't believe we won to be honest. I hope we don’t have another game like that again.
