Google Expedition

At the age of 12 and 13, Pt England’s Intermediate students got the chance to experience a Google Expedition. It was fortunate to be apart of this incredible group as well as travelling the world with our friends. To kick start the year 7’s were split into their three groups that they are usually in for Te Reo Maori. This all happened while the year 8’s left for tech.

Entering the doors of the common room, the year 7’s were sitting quietly. We made our way ready for P.E.N.N. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to watch P.E.N.N (Pt England News Network) so we decided to watch it after morning tea. This did take up a little bit of the year 8’s time, but we didn’t mind!

“Rua, you will be going first,” we heard Mrs Tele’a, this reason is because we were lined up in straight lines ready to begin. I was excited. Dave was the man who was going to explain what we were about to do. He asked politely, “So, can you please get your Google Cardboard.” Without any hesitation, everyone rushed towards the table where the object was placed.

I placed the google cardboard on my eyes and looked into it. The first image that popped up was a man named David Attenborough. Have you ever heard of this name? This man is a famous scientist and a narrator on documentaries. He was located in the Borneo Rain forest. It was so incredible and bizarre, because if you turned your head the Google Cardboard recognizes that and rotate with you.

Have you ever wondered where the tallest building is in the world? This was one of the other extraordinary place we had visited. This building is found in Dubai. It is named, The Burj Khalifa, and is made up of 43 floors. The Burj Khalifa has a hotel, a restaurant, working offices and multiple more.

During the Google Expedition, we had little activities. Mrs Tele’a or Dave would choose a place like the Rain forest and the aim was to try and find the Python snake. It was tricky because it was camouflaged with the leaves on the ground.

All these places were incredible and a great experience. I found using the Google Cardboard quite easy and interesting to use in a good way. As everybody knows, in this generation everything is about technology and having Google Cardboard to explore the world in even better. That day was a great day because also I enjoyed it with my friends. Google Cardboard should become worldwide, and hopefully Pt England School as well as the Manaiakalani School’s succeed in getting their own Google Cardboard.

The Time Something of Mine Went Missing

Recently I got a new phone. It wasn’t flash but it was good enough for me. The phone was a android and had everything a phone should have. Not one glitch in this phone at all. I liked my phone, it had games, music, and could take amazing photos, until one day! My phone went missing.

On the day it went missing I had just woken up. The night before we had just come back from my Uncle's funeral. Opening my eyes I just remembered I needed to get in touch with my sister because she was staying at my nan’s. I reached out for my phone. I couldn’t find anything. While I was getting out of bed, I was wondering where it could be.

It was important that I find my phone because if I didn’t get in touch with my sister, she wouldn’t know how to come home. I started looking! Under the bed? No! Between the couch? No! “Aroha, do you know where my phone is?” Aroha was my cousin that was looking after me. She replied without any care, “No.” I knew she wouldn’t take any notice, but to me this was serious.

Half the day passed by. I started thinking. “Could my phone be still at the marae?” I didn’t want to think that it could be, but there was a possibility. Aroha and I took a walk to Glen Innes Town Center. We used the phone box. I called my mum. “Mum have you seen my phone?” “Yes it’s here at the Marae you left it here. I’ve already called your nan and your sister will be dropped off tomorrow.” As soon as I heard those exact words I was relived.

The rest of my day went on fine, and not another worry went through my head. I hope that nothing like that ever happens again!

The Flower Show

Did you know that the Flower show was previously held here in the city of Auckland. Then the showed moves to Christchurch. Approximately 10 thousand people attend the flower show. The flower show has been going since 1994. Except 1997 and 2011, (Because of the Christchurch Earthquake.)

The first show was held in the Auckland suburb of Ellersilie at the Ellersilie Racecourse in 1994.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

While Charlie was walking along the footpath, he found a silver coin in the drain. “ I am going to buy a Wonka Bar”. He cried out loud. So off he went with his lucky coin....

As Charlie walked into the door, the bell rang, Ding Ding. “ May I have a scrumdiddlyumptious Wonka Bar please, Oh and make it the biggest one you have?” Charlie asked nicely. “ Sure”. The shopkeeper answered back. “ Here you are”. he said. “ Thank You”. Charlie replied feeling very relieved.

Charlie tore the wrapper off as fast as he could and shoved the chocolate down his throat. “Hey, hey, hey slow down eh, you could get a stomach ache if you eat like that”.  Warned the shopkeeper. Charlie kept eating. The shopkeeper gave back Charlie’s change. He thought of buying one for his Grandpa Joe. So he did.

After Charlie had bought his Grandfather’s chocolate, he walked outside. “ Slow down okay, one at a time”. Exclaimed the man. Everybody was crowding all around the newspaper man. Charlie looked over at them. He went to go and see what the were all yapping about. At last he saw the paper. “ The fifth ticket had been a fake”.

Charlie walked away quietly. He hoped he still might have a chance. Charlie hid away in a little corner. He ripped the outside wrapper of Grandpa’s chocolate, then tore the inside carefully. Little Charlie  saw a piece of gold hanging out. He quickly shut it as if it wasn’t real. Then opened it again and took the whole thing out.

Then with a fright, a lady pulled his arm, and dragged Charlie towards the crowd. “ He’s found it, he’s got the last golden ticket”. The lady yelled out. “ May I look, Hey move out of the way”. Everybody was saying. The shopkeeper pulled onto Charlie’s arm, then moved him away. “Run, run hold on to that ticket and don’t stop running till you get home”. The shopkeeper shouted. Charlie sprinted all the way home.

The Crazy Hippo

As the small boat passed by the Hippos, a massive beast leaped up to defend its territory. Gathering speed, the tourists sped away from the advancing creatures. Surprisingly, hippos are the second most deadly wild animal.

Ice Amsterdam

Most of the times ice melt into water and kids can't get to school. Well there is country that has been frozen for 15 years. One interesting part is that a country frozen solid for the first time in 15 years. Ice can turn a place in into a skating park. Hope you know how to skate.

Trees

We made these trees to demonstrate what makes a good learner. I chose the word Reflect because I think that i can Reflect on my work.

Cricket

Running around the bases I felt nervous.

After the first game room 13 was filled with enthusiasm for the second.

Powerfuly, I ran towards the home base.

What a day a the beach

WOW!!!!!! Starting my day off at the beach. We were going to St Heliers

1 Day at St Heliers Beach.

When we were driving to St Heliers beach I was so excited. I was talking to my cousins but they weren’t listening cause they couldn’t be bothered. We finally got there. I jumped out of the car and got into my togs, then ran into the cold, frezzing, water. But then I stayed in the water so I can get warmer.

While I was swimming with my cousins I felt something under the water. So I went under the water and it was a lovely shell. When it was time to go home I got out of the beach and I took the shell with me. “YAY!!!! Were home!!!!!”. Yelled my cousin Emma.

That was my day at the beach. What a day at the beach!!!!!

Alien Snot

What were you doing at school Yesterday? Well room 13 made this gross mixture called Alien snot.

I bet you are thinking, How do you make alien snot? Well, you need a bowl. Then you add a cup of cornflour and then add a little bit of water. Finally you give it a little mix. Then you stir in some green food colouring to make the snot look realistic.

Yucky, slimy snot, that was hard like a rock. When we touched the neon green mixture, it dripped through our hands. Messy and strange it stained our hands.

This whole activity was GROSS!!!!

Thinking Hat

1) Yellow hat.

The Yellow Hat means What did I enjoy this term.
What I enjoy this term is having a netbook, because it is more easier than a paper and pencil and because it faster.


2) Black Hat.

The Black means what things I didn’t like this term.

I didn’t enjoy not knowing my fraction’s. I did think it was enough but I wanted to learn more.

3) White Hat.

The white hat means What did I learn.

I learnt how to work new things on my netbook because it is new and people sometimes don’t know how to work new things. What I learnt how to do on my netbook is to change my backround.


4) Red Hat.

The red hat means How did I feel about my term overall.

What I felt about my term overall is that I have a great time with my class mates you know why is because they are kind to me and they share games with me and helps me.


5) Green Hat.

The green hat stands for what did I find most Interesting

I had find out that there are a ten in a ten that makes a whole. I like fractions. It helps me learn.


6) Blue Hat

The Blue hat means What could I have done better to help my learning

I could have done better at my Fractions. I could have done better on Aussie rules why because I did not know how to do a droppant and a drop pant is a kick.

Aussie Rules

On a cold and blustery Thursday, we played Aussie Rules. Our instructors were Megan and Allysa. So if you want to play Aussie Rules you should go and see Allysa and Megan.

What I found out was that New Zealand has 4 different seasons, and they are, Autumn, spring, Winter, and summer, and that happened all on Thursday afternoon. That’s fantastic. New Zealand is the only country that’s has 4 different seasons in a day. New Zealand is a special country!!!!

When room 13 got there, we had to wait for room 19. Finally they came. Before we could start we had to do a bit of a warm up, but the warm up had no name, so we called our warm up Bumper Jumper. Megan and Allysa gave us a demonstration of what we had to do.
Our first task was to find a partner. Firstly we had to hop on one leg and try bump your buddies foot to make them touch the ground, and if you made them fall that’s a point for you.

Our skill that we were practising was bouncing the ball. We started on our knees at first and then stood up and bounce the ball and finally while running. I now know how to bounce a rugby ball. I thought it was fun.

Base ball is a well known game. Well room 13 and room 19 were playing a game that is slightly like base ball. We had to kick the ball and then Alysa will give you another Aussie Rules Rugby ball so you can run with, but before you get to the first base, you need to bounce the ball, and you need to do that at every single base without stopping on any of them.

We had a great time at Aussie Rules I guess it’s not too bad after all!!!

Ma 'a Nonu

Ma ‘a Nonu
Down the field a cunning plan was placed in the hands of the opposition. The great idea was to tackle Ma ‘a Nonu. Slipping out of the tackle, a bullet pass was thrown to Nonu and score a diving try while waving his hands in triumph. Celebraton was brought to town after the game was won!

Jandals

JANDELS
In New Zealand many people wear jandels in summer, because it is hot. In Australia people call them flip flops. Flip flops is another way of calling them jandels. The reason why people wear Jandels is because sneakers a really hot to wear. So they have to take off their shoes, and that is anoying. That’s why we have Jandels. So in summer people will put on their Jandels, and have nice cool feet.

Jonah Lomu

Jonah Lomu was a Tongan, and was the first global star. He debuted for the All Blacks in 1994. When Jonah was in the All Blacks team, he played 63 games for them. Jonah Lomu was a intimidating player.

In 2003 Jonah Lomu had dialysis. Jonah Lomu had a kidney problem. He had to had a kidney transplant his kidney in 2004 otherwise he would be in a wheel chair for the rest of his life.

Buzzy Bee

Buzzy Bee

Buzzy Bee is a New Zealand famous toy, and all most every child has a buzzy bee. It was made in a small workshop in the 1930s in Auckland. Nearly every New Zealanders love Buzzy Bee.

I hope you you have learnt something new about our amazing country and that you HAVE A GREAT TIME AT THE RUGBY WORLD CUP!!!!!!!!! GO ALL BLACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badminton

For our third week of playing Badminton Donna was our teacher for the day. Donna was demonstrating what we needed to do, on our backhand and forehand. When Donna finished we went off and tried to do it ourselves. It was tricky, because it was hard serving the shuttle. We were getting frustrated, because when our class mates would serve they would miss. We had to swing it directly at them.


As soon as Donna was ready, we would be ready to play Badminton soccer. It was quite fun. We would laugh and and jump around, it was funny. We hit the shuttles powerfully, and used team work. Sometimes it would feel kind of awkward. Otherwise we enjoyed ourselves.

Our whole class played a game of badminton. There was one side of boys and one side of girls. In the girls team, some girls could not serve properly so Donna had to show them how to serve. We had to learn how to hit safe with a racket. When we were playing badminton we had to do quick body movements.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME AT BADMINTON!!!!!!!!!!

Healthy Food

Why should we eat healthy food?

So that your body can stay healthy. In order to stay healthy children should eat regular meals. Children should eat healthy food.

What are healthy foods?

Kids like us should eat a variety of foods from the four main food groups, and those are, bread and cereal, milk and dairy products, meat and fish and fruit vegetables.
Fats and sugars are needed to be eaten everyday, but only in a limited time. The healthy drinks for kids are, milk and water, juice and frizzy are for treats. Kids should always eat breakfast in the morning, so that your brain can work and learn properly.


Conclusion

If you and your children eat right, you will live a happy and healthy life.

Back to the future

Wheels screeched as the car was reversing out of the driveway. Marty spoke nervously to Doc, “Hey Doc, we better back up, we don’t have enough road to get to 88”. Jennifer was bleakly miserable. Doc replied, “Roads. Where we’re going we don’t need roads,” as he pulled down his glasses and pushing buttons. Then the Delorean, flew off with a burst of rocket fueled fire.
