During assembly I heard Mr Burt say something about Fiafia, I quickly turned my head. “On April the 9th at Pt England School we are going to be having another Fiafia.” I was like, “What. Didn’t you guys have one last year.” I was a bit confused because we normally have one every 2 years, but this one was different. “Yeah, so the practises will be every Thursday starting next week.” I was very much excited.
“Mary, Quasia, Nikki, Lesieli, you guys are going to class 10 to Miss Ouano for Hawaiian,” exclaimed Miss Squires. The day had finally come for the practice's. I didn’t know what we were going to do for Hawaiian but I had a fair idea. I walked over to Miss Ouano’s class. We all sat down and watched a video called Manuelo, then Ahulili. We practised for weeks and some of our lunchtime.
Just 2 days before Fiafia we had a rehearsal. That meant we got to see the other groups performances before the actual night. The Senior Kapa Haka group went up first, since they were opening. Then the others one by one, in order. Then the actual night had eventually come from all the practice's, lunchtimes, and participation. It finally made it’s way here.
As I walked through the school gates I could smell the delicious foods that the stores were selling!! I couldn’t believe it. There were a lot of chattering and people running around. Kids talking to there friends. It was like a huge carnival. The clouds grew darker and the sky was going really dark blue.
Mr Burt had said something and as soon as he said “Good evening,” kids started running to their changing rooms. But Mr Burt was gonna say, “ Go to your Changing rooms anyway so...” But I still ran to the Library because that was were the Senior Kapa Haka group was held. I put my costume on and then went out to the stage. The stage was held on our school field. The were lots of chairs lined up just for our parents. As I was about to go on stage I felt butterflies in my stomach and I felt like spewing. But I knew that I had to do it because I was representing my culture.

Then as soon as I finished I had to quickly get changed because I was in 2 groups. Kapa Haka and Hawaiian. So I got changed and then lined up in my group. We waited patiently until it was our turn. “Come on girls lets go it’s our turn after the Tongan Girls.” Said Miss Eadie. We all stood up immediately. I could hear some girls squealing like nothing. “The Hawaiian Hula Girls.”

We walked onto the stage. It was silent. I could hear a few cheers and claps here and there. We started our dance. As soon as we finished our dance, I quickly ran off the stage.
I really had a lot of fun on that night. I wish we could do it every year. Sadly I won’t be here in the next 2 years. My highlight of that night was seeing others happy. Ad performing.
Thank you to all the tutors and Mr Burt and the Teachers for helping us make this Fiafia happen.
